Four active initiatives carry Hangool Institute's research and advocacy from the page into communities, institutions, and public dialogue — each rooted in one of our three focus areas.
Community Peacebuilding Program
Fostering local initiatives to build peace and resolve conflicts within communities.
This program works directly at the community level, engaging local leaders, elders, and civil society groups to design and lead their own conflict-resolution and reconciliation processes. Rather than imposing external frameworks, Hangool Institute provides facilitation, research support, and capacity building so that peacebuilding efforts are owned and sustained by the communities themselves.
Security Sector Reform Initiative
Improving security institutions for better peace and stability.
This initiative focuses on strengthening the effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of security institutions — through research on counterterrorism strategy, cybersecurity policy, and institutional reform, paired with direct engagement alongside government and security forces to help translate research into workable policy.
Good Governance Advocacy Campaign
Promoting transparency, accountability, and effective governance practices.
This campaign advocates for stronger public-sector transparency and more accountable democratic institutions across Southwest and Jubaland States — working with policymakers, civil society, and the public to push for reforms that make governance more open, responsive, and trustworthy.
Policy Dialogue Series
Engaging discussions on key policy issues to promote informed decision-making.
A recurring series of structured dialogues that brings together government representatives, civil society, researchers, and community voices to discuss the institute's research findings and the policy questions they raise — creating a direct channel between evidence and decision-making.
